Captiva Island Estate

A barrier-island kitchen carries different constraints than an inland one — humidity, salt air and seasonal vacancy all work against standard cabinet construction. The material and joinery decisions here were made around that reality first, with the finished aesthetic following from it rather than the other way around.

Quarter-sawn oak was chosen for its dimensional stability as much as its fleck figure, and every upper cabinet run conceals its own lighting and ventilation rather than relying on surface-mounted fixtures. A working butler's pantry sits directly behind the range wall, finished in the same material language so the transition is seamless from the room the owners entertain in to the one they actually cook in.
